Kalkan - A lively, traditional harbour town, with Ottoman houses and historic remains
This former Greek fishing village was previously called Kalamaki. It has become a magnet for those in the know seeking a relaxing holiday in a pretty resort with every amenity within short walking distance.
The old town of Kalkan is an exotic mixture of narrow streets, old Ottoman houses and souvenir shops: the perfect place to stroll around, sample the atmosphere and bargain for goods. Down by the harbour front, you will find a beautiful pebble beach and cafes/restaurants, where one can sip a glass of raki as the sun sets and watch the boats come in with their catch. Kalkan is renowned for its wonderful terrace restaurants specialising in fresh fish and Turkish cuisine of the highest order.
Kalkan is the perfect place to base yourself and explore the numerous historical ruins and wonder at the remains of the ancient Lycian civilisation: ruins such as Patara, Xanthos and Letoon – all just a short drive away.
Alternatively you can take a boat trip to the mysterious ruins on Kekova island, where one can snorkel above long forgotten tombs.
